Catching Up

So it has been a bit since I have posted, and I have a bit of catching up to do.

Following up on the previous blog, I finished the piece of furniture that I will be using as a dresser in my guest room. It came out nice, but I really learned a lot about fixing up furniture. It is extremely important to carefully examine a piece before you buy it. Had I done this, I would have seen that this dresser was not top quality, and that it was going to take a lot of work to fix it. The construction of a piece is so important.

Two weekends ago, we went to the Science Museum with Matteo's best friend, Nathan, and his mom, Aran. They had a lot of fun, and afterward we enjoyed some adult fun- a nice cold beer! Matteo and Nathan are so cute together, we even got a pic of them hugging!

Mario and I celebrated Valentine's day one day late, on Monday. It was nice because we had the day off work, but Matteo still went to daycare. We went to the boatshow in Miami, and our friend Clayton (who happens to be a Yacht broker) to us on a bunch of the big yachts. So cool! Later that night we went and saw Avatar in 3D. It was my first 3D movie experience, and if you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend.

This past weekend we mostly chilled. On Sunday we made it to Hollywood beach, and even though it was a little chilly, Matteo had a blast playing in the water fountains! He was so cold, he was shivering, and he still cried when I made him leave!
This Saturday, Matteo and I leave for Panama for a week. So lots of travel posts to come!

New Old Furniture

So, my mother-in-law is coming for an extended visit (she will probably stay about a year total, to help us out while I am in school), and I have decided to fix up our guest room. (Good excuse- right?) I bought a night stand and a small cabinet (which I am using as a dresser). I sanded both items down, and have thus far painted the night stand blue and replaced the hardware on it. I am going to paint the dresser the same color and use the same hardware. As you can see in the picture, I spray painted the screen silver, as they where previously a rusty bronze color. Check out the finished night stand and the work in progress dresser.

The Zoo!

This past weekend, we visited the Miami Met Zoo for the first time. It is really a great zoo, with a lot of activities for the little ones. We saw massive turtles, kangaroos, a jaguar, elephants, bears, etc. The zoo is huge, and after almost 6 hours, we still had not seen everything. I think we might become members so that we can go more regularly.
The best part of our day was Matteo feeding the giraffes. They have these huge black tongues, that they wrap around their food. Matteo was unsure about sharing his lettuce with them, so you should have seen him playing tug of war with these humongous creatures! Luckily, giraffes are extremely gently, and they were quite patient with Matteo, liking and kissing him lots.

New Teeth!

After a weekend of screaming, crying, and shear torture, Matteo is finally in a good mood again! And he has good reason to be, because he has 2 new teeth! His top cuspids have arrived :) I don't have a picture of the teeth, so I thought I'd share with you a picture of Matteo dreaming of teeth!
